THE ONE PUBLISHED RATE CONTRADICTS ITSELF, INSIDE ONE ARTICLE. washingtoncitypaper.com states '$4.99 per minute for a one on one chat, or $9.99 per minute for an exclusive private chat', and the same piece says 'Chatmate charges $4.99 for 50 tokens'. Those cannot both be true against a 1 GOLD = 1 USD peg: the second implies about 10 cents a GOLD. So at least one published figure is wrong and I cannot yet say which. That is why this file is marked contested on a single source rather than on two, and it is a worse state than an unconfirmed figure, not a milder one.

Why a range and not a number
Every cam site invents a currency and then hides the exchange rate. Stripchat sells tokens, LiveJasmin sells credits, Jerkmate sells Gold, MyDirtyHobby sells something called DirtyCents. None of them is worth the same as any other, and none of them is worth a round number of cents. Then the price per unit falls as the package gets bigger, on a ladder each site sets for itself.
The effect is that you cannot compare two cam sites by looking at them. You can compare two supermarkets on the price of milk. You cannot compare Stripchat and LiveJasmin, because one is quoting you tokens a minute and the other credits a minute, and the tokens and the credits cost different amounts depending on how many you bought.
Every other comparison site in this niche solves that by not solving it. They rank on a score, and the score correlates with the commission. The ones that do quote a price quote an average, and on the six platforms up there where every performer sets their own rate an average is a number true of no room on the site. Chaturbate publishes 6 to 150 tokens a minute itself. There is no honest middle of that.
So the top table gives the range and refuses the middle. Both ends are figures somebody published: the platform's own stated minimum and maximum, priced at the platform's own top-up tiers. What it does not tell you is where in the range a room you actually open will fall, and that is the thing a sample of rooms would settle. Until then the range is the whole of what is known, and it is considerably more than nothing.
The end-to-end tool is a knapsack problem rather than a lookup, because the ladders are not always monotonic. CAM4's 150-token card tier is cheaper per token than its 300, 550 and 1,050 tiers, so "buy the biggest you can afford" is the wrong answer there and the right answer at the same budget is two of the small one. No site tells you that. The maths lives in src/lib/pricing.ts, it is unit tested, and nothing else on this site is allowed to compute a price.
What none of this is, is a ranking of which cam sites are good. That is a separate judgement, it is mine, and it is on the homepage where it belongs. Fusing the two is how this site briefly ended up recommending whichever platform I had finished researching.
Four things decide what an hour costs
Only one of them is the site's advertised price.
The room you pick. On most of the platforms above, every performer prices their own room, and the gap between the cheapest and the dearest is wider than the gap between any two platforms. Choosing well inside one site saves more than choosing between sites. Which sites have a house rate is a much shorter list than the alternative.
The package you buy. The per-unit price falls as the package grows, usually. On 15 of the 18 ladders I hold the biggest package really is the cheapest per unit, and on the rest it goes backwards somewhere. That table is above and every tier is priced out here, with the three ladders that misbehave written up separately.
What is left in the wallet. Tiers do not divide into what you need, so some of every top-up is stranded. LiveJasmin's cheapest top-up is $18 and does not divide into anything. The stranded balance is a real cost and nobody quotes it, which is what the session tool is for.
The welcome offer. On the one platform where I have confirmed both the ladder and the offer at the checkout, the first-purchase discount is worth more than the entire volume ladder: 200 Stripchat tokens cost 8.00¢ each on a first purchase, which beats the 2,350-token tier at its list price of 8.51¢. If you are going to buy once, buy on the offer. I cannot yet tell you whether that generalises, because three of the four platforms with a quantified welcome offer have no confirmed checkout behind them. What each of those four offers actually is, including the two this site advertised for years and that never existed, is a page of its own.
