Chatspin Review: Random Video Chat on Mobile

There is one good tier on Chatspin’s token ladder and it is the middle one, and not where anybody’s eye goes. Buy the rung above it and you get a worse rate than the person who spent less.

There is the trap on this platform, worth knowing before anything else, because Chatspin is otherwise the cheapest of its four sibling sites and the only one that sells two different things.

The membership first, because it is the one most people buy. $4.99 a week, $14.99 a month, or $59.99 charged once every six months, which the site advertises as $9.99 a month, and that figure is honest: $59.99 divided by six is $9.998. Shagle, Flingster and ChatRandom all charge $6.99 and $19.99 for a comparable membership, so Chatspin is 25% under its own family on the month and half the price on the six-month plan.

Then there is the token ladder, which exists because you can buy the individual features without a recurring plan. It has a hole in it:

The 4,500-token pack is 11% worse per token than the 2,000-token pack below it. Spend $49.99 and you get a worse rate than somebody who spent $19.99; spend $99.99 and you are back where the $19.99 buyer already was. The first line of this page describes that shape, with the numbers on it.

That shape is not rare, and CAM4 does the same thing by 18%, but it is invisible unless somebody divides five pairs of numbers, and platforms do not print the division.

Every figure above is mine, read off Chatspin’s own pages in 2022. Nobody has opened the checkout since, and four years is four years: treat the shape as sound and the numbers as the starting point for the next look.

Two products, and only one is worth the tokens

Chatspin is the only one of the four siblings that sells a token ladder as well as a membership, and the ladder at the top of this page is the part to be careful with.

If you are going to buy tokens here at all, the 2,000 is the tier, and nothing above it does anything for you.

What the tokens are actually for is a separate question from what the membership is for. The membership buys filters. The tokens buy in-chat extras. Neither is metered private time, because Chatspin does not have any. There is no per-minute rate on this platform and there is not going to be one. The two sites in this category that do sell a minute are priced against these plans in what paid random video chat costs.

The apps are the reason to pick this one

The mobile apps are the reason to pick Chatspin over its siblings. Both the iOS and Android versions are real applications rather than a wrapped website, and if you are using this category on a phone that is a material difference.

Beyond the apps it is the family product, feature for feature: face filters and masks, a gender filter and a country filter behind the paywall, and a free tier that works without a card. The apps and the price are the whole difference.

Where the money goes on this page

Worth asking, because this page tells you to buy the cheapest of four competing products and that is the sort of advice that usually has a reason behind it. The reason is not money: Chatspin has never paid me anything, there is no programme of theirs I am signed up to, and the page carries no button because there is nothing to put in one. The alternatives block lower down does earn, those links go to other companies, and every one of them is labelled where it sits.

Whether any of these 2022 figures still hold

Whether the plan prices and the ladder are still current, which is the gap that matters most here. Both are my own from 2022 and nobody has been back. And whether the free tier is unmetered as a recorded fact rather than as something I describe from using it.

This category on a phone, at half what the siblings charge

If you use this category on a phone and do not want to pay Shagle and Flingster prices for it, this is the one. On the six-month plan it is half what the siblings charge for the same job.

The token ladder is the thing most likely to mislead you here, and the reason this is the wrong page for anybody who came looking for a cam site. Tokens on a cam site buy metered time. These buy in-chat extras from strangers who are not being paid to be there. If a performer is what you want, Jerkmate is where this site sends you instead.

Skip the tokens unless you know what you want them for.
